Kids are naughty and innocent, and can be precocious and quite difficult too at times. But, at the end of the day, they are KIDS – ours to love, nurture and cherish. Their special day is around the corner on 14 November, and this year we'd like you to try out something different. Celebrate Children’s Day in Vizag by taking some time out and doing stuff not for them but ‘with’ them. It would not just enliven their day, but it would also allow the child in all of us to resurface – if only for a while! MetroMela has some suggestions…
Simple activities together, at home
On Children’s Day, after play, when you serve your children their evening snack, involve them in the ‘making’ process. If it’s a veg sandwich, then allow them to layer the cucumber and tomatoes. If it’s rolling out a roti, then get them to cut out animal shapes with you – turning a mundane task into a fun activity for their day. If it’s in the garden, then get them to plant a plant, and this is one activity that may just grow along with them, staying on as a reminder of fond memories of having done something together.
At telly-time, for a change, sit down with them and watch their favorite cartoon along with them. It’s worth the laughs that would surely follow. If it’s at the park, then get on to that slide and wiggle your way down with them screaming (you must), and don’t worry about those stony stares from bystanders. Just look at your smiling kids. Even a simple activity like blowing balloons together would do wonders! The trick is to take some time ‘out’ and be ‘like’ them, together.
From the MetroMela family
MetroMela’s got several places for you to visit with your kids. In Vizag, there’s the fish aquarium Matysa Darshini for the wonders of the sea, by the sea; there’s Vuda Park for a stroll and a game of hop-skip-and-jump (holding your hands together and hop and skip and jump alternately to move); and there's an early evening date with the animals at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park. On the other hand, if your kids love books and games, then Pages is the place to go to for its ambience of books, fun and cheer (sit there on the couch, grab a comic-book, leaf through it together and watch the city buzz by – the staff would not mind ’coz they are nice!), and if it’s eating out together then, of course, MetroMela’s got the right spots here.
Step out to see the larger world
This is a special one and it involves some very special children. To do this, you would have to encourage your children to help you to collect their old toys and clothes right away (do not tell them the reason) and then, on 14 November, step out and visit either an orphanage or a school for children with special needs. It’ll help to awaken the sensitivity that you would love to have as a family.
Children’s Day is meant for celebrating with children and with the child in all of us! So have a great time, and share your ideas and views and tell us how you celebrated Children’s Day, in our comments’ box.
